What is the FusionPhysio Self-Paced Knee OA Program?
Careplan AI is simply a software we have access to that allows us to design video-based exercise and educational program for certain conditions. We pay for the program and give you access as a community service. The program can be designed in various ways. You can access the program as an app on your phone, or through a browser on any device. What is the program based on?
We have designed our Knee Osteoarthritis program to be based on the classic “NEMEX” exercise program, which is a long-standing approach to Knee Osteoarthritis management. NEMEX is nothing fancy - it is just an abbreviation for an exercise program that uses basic exercises (some you’ve likely seen) to improve the function of the both the muscular and neurological systems (thus the abbreviation - NEuroMuscular EXercise Program = NEMEX).
Our version of this program will be broken up into a couple of different exercises for each of the following categories. These exercises have been proven to decrease pain and increase abilitiies in most people with Knee Osteoarthritis.
The exercises included in the program will address the categories of:
Knee Strength - exercises that focus on the muscles of the knee that are weakened by osteoarthritis
Hip Strength - exercises that help control the strain on the knee from above
Alignment Exercises - exercises that help you minimize the strain on your knee by keeping your hips, knees and feet in the right position
Core Exercises - exercises that help give strength to your trunk, giving you a stable base to work your legs from
Functional Exercises - exercises that prepare you for activities that you do in everyday life
In total, you can expect to perfor up to 10 exercises. The program might take you 15-60 minutes (including a short warm up and cool down), depending on how many exercises you do. As we noted in at the beginning, some exercise is better than no exercise! The exercises start at an easy level, and suggestions are made as to how to make them harder until they are sufficiently challenging. A video is provided for each exercise.
